Kimono BJJ — Combat-Ready Japanese Gis
Premium BJJ, Judo & Karate gis built for training and competition — IBJJF-regulation quality, men, women & youth sizes.
A BJJ kimono (also called a gi or keikogi) is a reinforced training uniform used in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, Karate, and other martial arts. It consists of a jacket (uwagi), trousers (zubon), and a belt (obi). IBJJF-approved BJJ gis must meet specific fabric weight, sleeve length, and collar thickness requirements. Our collection covers lightweight training gis for daily practice and heavy-duty competition gis for tournaments — in white, blue, and black, for men, women, and youth.

Kimono BJJ — Questions Answered
Kimono BJJ — Premium Martial Arts Gis for Training & Competition
Our BJJ kimono collection brings together the most complete selection of martial arts gis in the US. Whether you're a beginner looking for your first BJJ gi, an experienced competitor needing an IBJJF-approved competition kimono, or a Judo or Karate practitioner seeking a high-quality training uniform — every gi in our collection is built for performance, durability, and authentic Japanese martial arts tradition.
The History of the Martial Arts Kimono
The martial arts gi traces its origins to the traditional Japanese kimono, adapted for combat training by Judo founder Jigoro Kano in the late 19th century. Kano modified the standard Japanese work kimono into a reinforced, heavy-weave training uniform that could withstand the intense grip and throwing demands of Judo practice. This design was later adapted for Karate, Aikido, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu — creating the standardized gi format used worldwide today. The word kimono literally means ‘thing to wear’ in Japanese, connecting all martial arts gis directly to their Japanese textile heritage.
Choosing the Right Martial Arts Kimono
For daily training, choose a lightweight single-weave gi (350–450 gsm) for breathability and ease of movement. For competition, a heavier pearl or gold weave (500–700 gsm) offers more durability and is harder to grip. For beginners, a mid-weight gi in white is the most versatile choice — accepted in all disciplines and easy to keep clean. Free US shipping on orders over $100.
